Haughley Crawford'sChurch of England Voluntary Controlled Primary SchoolWilliam Crawford founded our school in 1866. It is a Victorian building with a small
garden and pond in front and a hard playground behind. In the Summer we have a swimming
pool on the playground. At the moment in school there are 108 children, 6 teachers, 2 classroom assistants, 1 administrative assistant, 1 caretaker, 1 cleaner, 1 cook, 1 kitchen assistant and 3 mid-day supervisors. Children can start at the school when they are four and they leave at nine to go to Middle School. The teachers teach us the National Curriculum which means we have lessons in Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Technology, I.T., Art, Music, P.E. and R.E. We start at school at 8.45 a.m. and finish at 3.10 p.m. Some children travel by bus. We have break time at 10.30 a.m. when we play on the playground and are allowed to bring healthy snacks. Lunch time is at 12 o'clock. Some children have hot lunches and others have packed lunches. In the Summer we eat our sandwiches outside on picnic benches. After we have eaten our lunch we play on the playing-field opposite the school, if the weather is nice. We have lots of clubs at lunch-time and after school. At the moment there are Choir, Writer's Workshop, Art, Sewing, Rounders and Football clubs. We have a School Bookshop which is open every Tuesday afternoon which sells fiction and non-fiction books. We also sometimes keep animals in the school. This year we had seven chicks hatch in one classroom. We also keep a gerbil and goldfish. Every classroom has at least one computer. In the library we have a CD Rom which we use to look up information. We go on lots of exciting trips. This year we have visited Orford and Framlingham Castle, Needham Lake, Foxburrow Farm, Thornham Field Centre, Stowmarket, pig, egg and fruit farms. We have also made studies of the village as part of the History and Geography National Curriculum. The PTA arrange lots of exciting events for us such as Christmas Fun, a Disco, May Fayre and a sponsored spell. They also raise lots of money and buy us extra things for school. Sometimes we have special events like Sports Day, a theatre performance, visiting authors and storytellers and charity fund raising days. By Year 4 Children
