The Witch's Tether Kinghorn's cemetery lies near the main Burntisland road on the edge of the town. At the high point of the cemetery lies the Carlin Craig - the Witch's Rock. Witches were once tried here - a euphemism for torture and torment. A merciful hearing would see the witch thrown over the side of the high rock, tethered only by the neck with a chain that was fixed to a heavy iron ring. Here we can still see a real sign of man's inhumanity to man as the iron ring lies, remarkably preserved, on short sea grass.
