Quick Checklist

You've done all the difficult stuff, but it's not working. Or you've come straight here because you're pretty sure it's all set up properly, but it doesn't seem to work.

There are some very simple things that are very regularly overlooked, they're listed here:

  1. Is your mobile phone service data enabled?
  2. Have you switched Infra red on, on the phone, and is it still on?
  3. If you are using an external adapter, is the Infra red adapter still plugged in?
  4. Have you enabled Infra red on the PC?
  5. Have you tried limiting the Infra red speed to 38400 bps in Ir Monitor (essential for MA600)?
  6. Have you got a suitable modem in the PC (software) or the phone itself?
  7. Have you installed the infra red modem software that came with your phone, or (equally good) have you installed a generic modem on your infra red port?
  8. Have you altered your application software so that it uses the modem on the infra red port?
  9. If you are running Windows 2000, are you using the special IrDA software needed for that?
  10. If you are using ZoneAlarm, are you using a version of ZoneAlarm after v2.1?

If you've answered 'yes' to all these, and it's still not working, then you'd better start here, at the beginning.
