Warwickshire police March 1999

We spent the evening in the police headquarters at Leek Wootton - as their guests!

They gave us an overview of policing in Warwickshire, and then took us round their control room.  Here they divide their patch between individual controllers, who receive calls, assess the requirement, and alert the appropriate emergency services.  The had TV monitors showing the situation throughout the county's motorways from 17 vantage points.  On the evening we visited, the notorious M42 and M6 were quiet, but a firearm incident caused some intense activity...

Thanks to Don Bennett for organising this visit.
