Isetta Internet & Other Micro's

New

For those of you into the techy stuff, this is my 1961 BMW Isetta 300. It's a right and drive British build version with three wheels. Two at the front and one at the back which is used to drive the bubble along via an enclosed chain drive.

I purchased her (Ingrid that is) in November 1996 after sending out a plea via usenet. She cost me £2500 and came with a huge collection of spares which included 3 gearboxes 2 engines and enough spare parts to build nearly two cars less the body panels.

Although she came with an MOT I have had to sort out a few problems. For those who have had an Isetta before you will know about fuel leaks I'm sure, and strange idling problems. When the clutch went I decided to remove the body and started fixing her up from the ground up. Some of the problems that needed to be rectified included oil leaks from the enclosed chain drive and gearbox and a chassis that looked liked it has been stored underwater at sea.

With help from my two kids, Lisa & Nick we filed, scraped, sanded, scrubbed and finally painted the chassis using two coats of black smoothrite. This gave a really deep gloss finish although if you miss the 3 hour deadline for the second coat, 6 weeks is a long time to wait.

Here are some great exploded views of the bubble parts.
