Eskiminzin

Eskiminzin was the leader of one of the Aravaipa Apache bands attacked in the Camp Grant massacre.

However the survivors had prospered on the San Carlos reservation, to such an extent that in 1883 they were described as living like a colony of prosperous Spanish-American farmers. Eskiminzin's bands credit was reckoned by one Tuscon merchant to be good for at least $4,000 or $5,000. But after losing their improved farms to white settlers when the reservation boundaries were withdrawn they were forced to start again from scratch.

Then Eskiminzin's daughter married an Aravaipa Apache known to whites as the Apache Kid. who after a series of tizwin drink related incidents became a lone raider and outlaw, who was never captured. General Nelson A. Miles claiming that Eskiminzin was hiding him, had the whole band arrested and removed from the reservation. However he subsequently relented and allowed them to return and begin rebuilding their prosperous lifestyle.
