Loch Awe

Loch Awe is over twenty miles in length but only about a mile in width except at its northern end. Unlike other lochs in the Highlands it has no outlet ot the sea at the southern point, but drains through the pass of Brander into Loch Etive. There are several islands in the loch, on some of which are the remains of former fortifications, for Loch Awe is in the heart of Campbell country and was a natural moat to their territories in the days of clan warfare.
