Inverness, Ross & Cromarty

Glen Cannich

Glen Cannich

West of Inverness-shire lies the county of Ross and Cromarty, a remote and beautiful place; it is divided into Easter and Wester Ross, the latter being the more mountainous part. Through Ross and Cromarty pass the routes towards the Kyle of Lochalsh, the nearest point on the mainland to the Western Isles.

Glen Cannich (above) is reached from Beauly or Inverness by following the course of the Beauly River — or River Glass — to its confluence with the River Cannich. The scenery in the glen is particularly attractive and becomes more and more wildly romantic in the upper part of the valley, where Lochs Mullardoch and Lungard have been harnessed to provide hydroelectric power.
