As the estate agent blurb says,
there are three important things about property - location,
location and location. Well,
Ashford Hockey Club has it all.
Neatly
placed between the Heathrow Airport petrol storage tanks and
Ashford Hospital, it has an adjoining cemetery where we bury
any obnoxious opposition players.
The
stunning views across the various pitches overlook the infamous
village of Stanwell to the north and a pleasant country lane
called the Great South West road to the south. This dates
from Roman times and judging by the age of some of the members,
they were around during construction.
The
Club is entered through some rather grandiose gates which
are decorated with the remains of cars that did not quite
make it between them. Immediately to your left is the car
park which, in true hockey club tradition, is a half-tarmaced
affair with cunningly placed areas that fill with water.
The
Clubhouse itself is a pleasant brick built, tile hung edifice
which has been cleverly positioned such that the astro can
only be viewed with great difficulty. Because of the select
location and other security concerns (see Stanwell above),
all the doors have combination locks and almost nobody knows
any of the numbers.
