The Water Bomb
Synopsis:
Mars has a drought crisis. Haggarty uses a new process where oxygen is added to hydrogen clouds to make rain and a test is successfully completed over the Sahara. But Mars lacks hydrogen clouds too, so Galasphere 347 takes both elements to the planet. En route however, Dart is tricked into landing on Phobos by Marog who requires the hydrogen to make a bomb in an attempt to blackmail Mars. The crew are imprisoned and Dart must find a way to stop him before it is too late...

And The Moral Is:
When It Rains, It Pours...
Today I Will Be Mostly Learning... :
If you add oxygen to a hydrogen cloud, the ultraviolet rays from the Sun will make them combine to make water. But there are no hydrogen clouds around Mars.
Slimantics:
"I have an overwhelming anxiety.".
A Venusian Has...:
The ability to sob, when hearing Dart and his crew face certain death. At least, we think she is sobbing. We hear her but she has her back to us...
To Coin A Phrase:
Slim: It is a painful thought... Dart: Thats given me an idea...
Riding Along In My Monobile... :
Raeburn visits Haggarty..
Ooh, Bitch...:
Raeburn to Haggarty: Keep your hair on... what little youve left!
Continuity:
Mars still has a problem with lack of water, with three-quarters of the planet being desert, and lacks hydrogen clouds.
Harmony For Strings:
Brig drags the semi-dead Husky outside.
"It will mean destruction for my city, and for Phobos.
But I cannot give in to Marog!"
The Martian President
Havent I Seen... ?:
The type 2 robot seen at the beginning has the banding Lizzie and Katy had (TR) on its body but not on its head.
Marog is Dr Duncan with dark hair and a monocle.
Brig is Berridge (MM) with an eyepatch.
The third member is Migas aide (UA).
And we get a return visit to Phobos.
Take A Break:
Having been told by Dart he has made a detour to Phobos, Raeburn tells Marla to inform the Martian President but "Don't let him speak to me!"
Astro Viewer Working:
Curiously (or perhaps ironically), Marogs men are tricked with the same ruse used to get the Galasphere to land on Phobos in the first place - illness!
The listings for this story (see below) state Marog is a Martian, but he lacks their characteristic appearance.
Hoorah!:
The crew of Galasphere 347 prepared to nearly sacrifice their lives, so as not to alert Marog to their escape and sabotage attempts.
Boo!:
Isnt threatening to destroy a city a little excessive, particularly if youre trying to get a pardon for criminal activities ?
We only see three criminals but Brig says everyone was killed to Marog when it seems quite clear that only the third and unnamed member was present in the hydrogen bomb chamber.

Listings
London, May 28th 1964:
On their way to Mars with a cargo of hydrogen and oxygen, required for an irrigation project, Dart and his galasphere are captured by a Martian renegade who has sinister palns for the gas.
Tyne Tees, June 8th 1964:
A great deal of Mars is desert and the Martian President asks Raeburn to find a way of bringing water to it, since irrigation is too costly. Professor Haggarty has brought water to the Sahara by means of an ingenious method involving the use of oxygen from Earth and hydrogen clouds in the uper atmosphere.
Raeburn decides to use the same method fro Mars, but since there is no hydrogen in the Martian atmosphere, they have to take both hydrogen and oxygen to Mars.
Dart is detailed to do this and en route his Galasphere and cargo is captured by a Martian convict who has set up a satellite and is in process of building an atom bomb. By capturing Dart's cargo he is now able to build a hydrogen bomb and threatens to destroy the Martian capital unless he is given what he wants.
Ready To Lift ?:
A very standard plot, almost identical to that of The Sands Of Death.
