Chester and Stalybridge, Cheshire

This branch of the family seems to start from Boyle, Roscommon, Ireland. Thomas moved to Chester before 1855. It is unknown if any other family members moved with him. It is just possible that Thomas was in England at the time of the 1851 Census. Around 1868 Thomas and family moved to Dukinfield, Stalybridge and possible descendants have been identified up to 1900 in this registration district (Ashton-Under-Lyne).

1. There is also a Sarah Shekey who married a John Paul in 1850 (Ashton Under Lyne) who may be connected.
2. The 1901 Census shows John (b 1886) and Thomas (b 1887) together in Droylsden. This may be the John that arrived at Ellis Island from Droylsden in 1907. Both should link into the above family tree.

It is thought that Thomas is the ancestor of the present day Sheakey and Cheakey families in Lancashire.

Boyle, Roscommon Added Dec 2002

Roscommon was the ancient capital of Connacht. The county that gave ancient Ireland its last High King and modern Ireland its first President. Co. Roscommon is an inland county 100km in length from the top of the Arigna valley in the north to Shannonbridge in the south, with a breath of 64km at its greatest width. The River Shannon is the boundary in the east and the River Suck in most of the west. Two-thirds of the county is bounded by water. In the north are the largest lakes - Lough Key, Lough Gara and Lough Boderg - with the great Lough Ree in the east. At least 3 of the above families found in England seem to have come from this part of Ireland. There has been little progress in tracing these families but there is at least a chance that they are related. The following parish record entries might give some clues to any family historian looking for ancestors here.
