WELCOME

( A Word From Our Chairman )

Hello everyone, welcome to our website.

We are a non-professional entertainment group based on the Isle of Wight. Our Pantomime this year (2005) marks our 25th Anniversary. I must thank Lloyds TSB (Isle of Wight Local Directors Office) for their generous sponsorship, without which we would not have been able to put those dazzling extra touches to this years show.

As this is our 25th anniversary I thought you might like to know a few interesting facts:

In 1981, a theatrical company was formed named ‘The New Wight Strollers’.
In 1989, the name was changed to ‘The Wight Strollers’, the name we still go by today 25 years on.

In this time, Cinderella has been late home 3 times and lost 1½ pairs of slippers. Then there was Aladdin who was forced into a cave, found a magic lamp & met a Genie twice! Dick Whittington has held post of Lord Mayor of London for 3 terms. Jack didn’t learn the first time he exchanged his cow for beans & did it again some years later & ended up in another fight with a giant over a hen that laid golden eggs.

On 2 occasions, Mother Goose like Jack, had a bird that laid golden eggs, only hers was a goose!

Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger while using a spinning wheel for a second time, although you’d have thought that after the first time she would have learnt how to use it properly!

On the other hand, Snow White has been so busy cooking & cleaning for a total of 21 dwarfs, she hardly had time to eat the poison apple. Poor old Robinson Crusoe is very unlucky on his travels… on 2 occasions he has been shipwrecked! (So far)

Thankfully the babes in the wood have only got lost once & Ali Baba only had to find one lot of 40 thieves!
When we performed the Pied Piper of Hamlein for the only time, we had to keep him away from ‘The Old Women Who Lived In A Shoe’ or she may have lost all her children!

And finally we premiered the tale of ‘Crispian & the Magic Sword’ who use it to fight the evil dragon but made friends with Dai Dragon.

Over the 25 years, we have helped over 70 charities by raising over £65,000. The members of the company have each been in rehearsal for 10½ years, or 125 months, or 3700 days! The cast have worn over 3000 costumes & sung & danced to well over 2000 songs! We have spent 9900 man hours painting scenery & making props using 625 litres of paint & thousands of nails & screws! To round it off, we have held 300 committee meetings to organise events.

Please browse our website and let us know what you think. We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully you might help us support local organisations by coming to see us.
