Wight Strollers 2005

Summershows are an extravaganza of music and sketches, based on a theme which varies from year to year. These Shows are directed and choreographed by two long standing members of the troup, Sarah Scotcher and Adele Rolf.

Unfortunately we are unable to produce a summer show in 2005.
Please accept our apologies for this situation.

Over the years the Wight Strollers have built up a reputation for it's Winter Pantomime. However, the Summer shows that were performed also have achieved a high standard of entertainment.
In the past the Wight Strollers staged a number of Summer shows with guest artists. However, from 1998 the Wight Strollers have staged Summer Shows with a "loose" theme, and given the members a vehicle with which to experiment with. Although the rehearsals have not been work-shops, they have still managed to achieve some exciting results. Members of the Strollers have been able to try their hand at comedy, dance and songs, when in the past the Pantomime format has not been so flexible.
The Summer Shows have allowed the Members to "let rip", and this they have done with great results.

25th July 1998
"Pushing the Boat Out"
One Evening Performance at the Medina Theatre.
A round the World tour of song, dance and comedy.
From the money raised a £500.00 donation was given to the British Heart Foundation.

26th June 1999
"We're on Vacation"
One Evening Performance at Medina Theatre.
The setting of a holiday camp was the back-drop for this summer show's collection of comedy, song and dance.
From the money raised a £500.00 donation was made to The Kosova Appeal.
The performance proved so popular that a repeat show was performed in August:

"We're on Vacation"
One evening performance at the Ventnor Winter Gardens.
The cast were very pleased with the theatre which had a lovely atmosphere and a beautiful setting.
A Donation of £300.00 was made to the Ventnor Mayor's Appeal.

June 2000
"Music Hall to Musicals"
A mixture of song, dance, sketches and comedy with the first half covering the music hall period and old-time East-End London, and the second half showing examples of West-End and Broadway musicals.

Nominated for an Isle of Wight Oscar! (The IW County Press Awards)
A donation of £675.00 was made to the British Legion.

July 2001
"The Best of Times"
A journey in time through the last century to present day, including the Silent Era, Roaring Twenties, World War II, 60's fashions through to disco, musicals of the 1980s and of course the Millennium.
Three evening performances were given: Medina Theatre (8th July), Freshwater Memorial Hall (14th July) and Ventnor Winter Gardens (15th July).
The cast were very pleased with the arrangements at Freshwater; the hall was unlocked and then they had to get on with it! They had to provide their own light and sound crew, and the boys managed extremely well. The hall was almost sold out and the evening went with a real swing. They were very pleased with how well the people of Freshwater supported this performance.
Also nominated for an Isle of Wight Oscar.

From the money raised at all three performances, the following donations were made:
£300.00 to Newport Toy Bank
£300.00 to Donkey Sanctuary (Wroxall, Ventnor)
£300.00 to Freshwater Inshore Rescue.

July 2003
"Carry On Strolling"
A cavalcade of music, dancing and fun, incorporating a few of our favourites: sketches written by our very own Mike Sutcliffe; a colourful pantomime section showing off the wonderful animal creations by Geoff Cox and including panto dames singing – what else? – “There is Nothing Like a Dame”; and plenty of singing and dancing, whizzing the audience at breathtaking speed from the East End of London to a wild west hoe down, fun with clowns at the circus and ending in a dazzling Twenties Chicago Nightclub.

Most importantly, we raised £1,000, which was donated to the West Wight Community Fund, Brookside.
