Any business that has been
around a number of years manufacturing a diverse range of products is bound to
end up with products and equipment which becomes “no longer required”, not
because it’s no good, simply because things move on.............................
Since SLM’s conception
in the mid 1960’s we were very involved with all the manufactures of radio
control equipment in the U.K. and Europe, but due to the influx of imported product
there has been a reduction in the manufacturing base and therefore fewer people
for us to support, however we do still have some radio controlled products in
stock.
The list below is really
just a re-hash of our radio control catalogue last produced a good few years
ago, please do not treat this as a definitive list, it is always going to be
best to contact us, email is good but phone probably better, this will enable
us to make sure you get the item that best suits your requirements on in the
case of spares you get the correct part. Due to the many hundreds of different combinations
of assembly of connectors (particularly older variants) they are always going
to be difficult to identify and if we can’t be sure over the phone it may be
best to send a sample, or maybe email a picture?
Connector system:-
We can still make most
versions of the standard S.L.M. connector system, 2pin 3pin 4pin 5pin
either in reversible or non
reversible form.
The “MG”
connector is part of this system and was used by Fleet Radio Control Systems
until they changed to the square blue coloured connector
they adopted.
Micron also adopted this as
their standard as did the RCM&E radio control system of the mid 1980’s

history.
Over the 35 years+ of
production the SLM connector system has sold world-wide, and has been used
in many environments and applications including, medical, industrial,
communications, hobby, possibly even outer-space!
The system was used by all
the manufactures of model radio control gear in the
In the very early days the
contact pins were “bought in”, but by the mid seventies supply problems were
becoming acute, action was required, SLM purchased two “fully
loaded” Bechler AR10 Swiss sliding-head automatic
lathes with “multibar” bar loaders.
This was a considerable
investment in high precision equipment but allowed SLM
to produce connector pins exactly as required and allowed expansion of the
connector system to include moulded types and
specials.
Because of the many hundreds
of combinations that are possible of male & female contacts in a moulding and allowing for reversible and non- reversible
options, the contacts have always been inserted into the mouldings
singly by hand.
In recent years the demise of
home produced R/C gear has taken its toll on our connector system, also
the developments in computers has produced some very good, small and cost
effective connector systems that many people have adopted.

Dual axis stick unit, this is
our original stick unit which dates back to the early / mid 1970’s it is quite
robust and has mechanical trims.

accurately as modern units.

Dual axis stick unit, a superb
design of the early 1980’s possibly way ahead of it’s time.
It was copied even though it
was protected by a world wide patent!
Unfortunately, now superseded
by designs which are as good and simpler to assemble.

DA82
Dual axis stick unit, very
high quality unit which has been produced in very large volumes, super smooth
action with highly accurate centreing.
Fitted as standard with two
electronic trims, but can easily be assembled with a third trim for other
functions, or indeed no trims at all!
Standard pots are 5K and
indeed the unit has been modified to accept a different pots (both function
& trim) to that originally supplied, some spares are available for older
types.
At present we have in stock 5K
function pots and 5K trim pots.
We also have some pots that
were specially made for us, they are 100K and have a special track that results
in the pot sweeping from zero to full value in the movement of the stick.
This stick unit is very versatile
and has many variations, please contact us before ordering, however the

Third axis knob
A very compact self centering
third axis knob, directly replaces the standard DA82 stick shaft. This knob was
tooled-up in the mid / late 1980’s there was a much larger, earlier version, we
still have some spares for this.

Servos
SLM servos were used in very
large volume by all U.K. and European manufactures of radio control they are
simple and tough in design and many are still in service today.
All SLM servo's should now be
considered as “spares Only” however we may be persuaded to assemble some to
order.
At present we have a small
stock of the following:-
HM servo using 16mm motor and cermet
type pot. (old horizon servo)
HMR servos as above but slower gearing for retracts.
HJ servo using a 16mm motor and a standard pot optional ball race
on output (very few motors left for this servo).
FB1, FB2, FB3, FB4, FB6, HH1,
HH2, HH2R & “Y” type servos are all now very old and are strictly spares
only.
Mammoth servo / winch
and dual drum winch
The mammoth servo was produced
in very large volume, however the majority were for commercial use, it was very
tough and when fitted with a good quality amplifier was very powerful indeed.
Must now be considered as
“spares only”, however some gears and shafts may be available and we have very
few motors, however all the plastic parts are still in stock.
Universal Servo mount
Why no one has ever adopted
our rather good servo mount beats me!! It clamps the servo in position and will
accept any make of servo.

Gyro
SLM’s gyro mechanics was one of the first on the market and
proved very reliable in use.
The design was used as the
basis for the “Quest” gyro which was market leader for some time.
Most gyro parts are still
available as spares.
Transmitter cases
SLM have been making TX cases
from the start of the business, cases were produced for all the major
manufacture’s and the RCM&E system, more recently we have had problems with
production, we would quite like to make a few more TX cases, however we have
problems with the supply of the vinyl covered aluminium
sheet used to produce them, the suppliers minimum order quantity is something
that can't be justified.
Very few complete TX case
remain in stock, however we do have stock of the plastic TX side panels and the
double front bezel for the Micron TX.
Stop Press!! We have just found some TX case blanks they are in white
vinyl covered aluminum and are unfinished RCM&E cases possibly “navigator”
variants, they need further work and folding to complete.

Drawing board A3 size drawing board with “parallel motion” folds away
into briefcase size package, “as new” condition. Qty 2 available.
Engineering materials We have a quantity of small (below 8mm) diameter bar in
full 10’ lengths steel brass and aluminium.
Also some “billets” of mild
steel approx 6in square x 1in and 1.5in thick.

sale, they are being sold because they no longer fit in with the type of work
