Alan Campbell finally broke his duck for the season and claimed 2 trophies in one match. Not only did he win the Steve Denny Shield, he also claimed the KO Cup as well. Fishing was hard after the recent gales and a rising river is not good for most species, but surprisingly there were a few fish caught. Alan changed tactics after a 5g flat float was too light to fish with. He switched to a pole feeder and had 2 small bream over groundbait with red maggot. Don Spearpoint fished a slack with a flat float on the pole and had several good roach also on maggot. Malcolm Smith claimed 3rd spot with a few roach on the pole with maggot.

Gerald Perks made it back to back wins, with a convincing win at Cheyney Manor. The weather today could only be described as horrendous. Obviously this affected the turnout but the fishing in fairness was good. Gerald was on the fancied peg and fished groundbait feeder with red maggot and had 8 carp plus a tench. Brian Hutchings looked for the carp on the feeder ,but stuck with the pole and maggot and had a good net of roach and rudd. Ken Franklin was third with 2 carp and a few roach on the groundbait feeder with maggot.

With very little flow, the chances of a few chub were minimal. However if there is one bloke that could wangle one out, your money would be on Gerald Perks. He managed to get 2 out, one on the maggot feeder and one on the waggler. Both fish fell to bronze maggot. He also had a few roach and perch to claim the Thames Shield. Alan Campbell struggled for the first couple of hours, but switched from feeder to pole with chopped worm and had a net of perch and roach. Brian Hutchings also switched to the pole and had 20 good roach for a level 6lb.

I think its only fair to say that we should write this off as a match lake until we get it stocked. There was not even a dozen fish caught in the 5 long hours in the rain.

There was a tie for 1st place with both Ken Franklin and John Davis returning 00-08-00. Ken had 3 small perch on the pole with maggot and worm, John had 2 rudd and a perch on the pole with maggot. Gerald Perks had 2 perch on the pole with worm for 3rd spot.

This was a match of 2 half's. Half the field enjoyed having a few fish in deep water and the other half struggled to find 18 inches of water to fish in. Only roach counted for the silverware. Steve Trotter fished a tidy match and won with a netful of red fins taken on the stick float with maggot. Terry Woodwood used the same tactics for second and third was Vernon Adams who caught on the pole with maggot.

Brian Hutchings made it 2 wins out of 3 in the series to claim the Aggregate Cup. The fishing was hard and an awkward wind made fishing the long pole even more difficult. Brian fished tight to the far bank and had 11 carp taken on banded pellet. Barry Wise had 9 carp also on the pole with sweet corn. Gerald Perks fished the feeder with pellet and had 5 small carp.

Gerald Perks won his second match on the spin on a very consistent Thames at Sandford. A good turn out of 12 anglers paid respect to the late Richard Butler before the match.

Gerald claimed the Vice-Presidents Cup on a blustery day with an all roach catch, taken on the waggler with his trusted caster and hemp. Alan Campbell had to settle for bridesmaid again, He also fished the waggler with maggot and hemp and had an all roach net. Ken Franklin was pipped by an ounce into 3rd spot. he also fished the waggler and had a few small chub and roach on the wag & mag.

This was another cracking roach dominated match, with a total weight exactly the same as the last match, 60lb 1oz! Gerald Perks caught on the waggler with hemp and caster from the start and never really stopped catching. He also claimed the Golden Peg. Alan Campbell opted for hemp and tares on the waggler but couldn't match Gerald's catch rate. Terry Woodwood caught on the pole with hemp and tares.

A very hot day saw one half of the lake catching, whilst the other side struggling for bites. It was a good match though and Barry Wise recorded his first win for a few years. Opting for paste on the pole, he managed to find the bigger carp in the lake and doubled the weight of the next angler. Tony Norton had to settle for second place although he was an early pace setter. All his fish fell to sweet corn on the pole. Alan Campbell was third with an all carp net taken on the pole in the margins.

Some good weights again came out at Sandford. Brian Hutchings not only won the match with a convincing net of seed caught roach, he also claimed the Golden Peg. Fishing the waggler with hemp and tares, Brian put together a steady net of roach throughout the match. Malcolm Smith and Alan Campbell opted for the same tactics. Malcolm just edged out Alan for second spot.

Weights were not great, but the best thing about it was that most of the fish caught were roach. The roach have not been showing throughout the Thames in Oxford, but today the started to put in a show. Terry Woodwood was top of the pile with good net of red fins, taken on the wag and mag. Steve Trotter opted for the same tactics for second place. Malcolm Smith alternated with the pole and waggler and had a hard earned net of roach and perch for 3rd spot

One tench was all that it needed to claim top spot. Ken Franklin sat it out on the worm and snared the tench with just ten minutes to go. He also had a few rudd and perch. Alan Campbell had a mixed net of roach, perch and rudd for second. John Davis was third with a level pound of rudd and perch.

Anglers were greeted with glorious sunshine through-out the match and all were rewarded with a few fish. Brian Hutchings is becoming a bit of a venue expert, having won at Milton Pools now on the last 3 visits. He fished mainly close in and up in the water with pellet to take an impressive mixed bag of fish for first place. Tony Norton fished similar tactics on peg 1 and also had a mix net of fish for second place. Vernon Adams got into the frame again with a good net of small carp taken on the pole in the margins.

The first match on the river is normally a grueller, but this match has got to go down as one of the worst. Just over 8lb of fish was caught amongst the 9 anglers that fished.

It was a case of scratching around for what was in front of you. Gerald Perks soon realized the roach were not having it on the waggler, so he opted for the pole with chopped worm and took several small perch for top spot. Malcolm Smith opted for the feeder with worm and had 3 perch. John Davis had a small chub and bits on the wag and mag for third.

Vernon Adams claimed the first silverware of the new season with a convincing win at Sunningwell Lake. Fishing the pole at 7m over the Lillie pads, he had 3 tench alternating between maggot and worm to win the J.Henwood Shield. . Brian Hutchings was second with a solitary tench and a few rudd. Ken Franklin was third with a tench taken on the worm. Not a bad start to the season on our new lake.
