War Diary entry for 12/10/1917.
Location: Frontline (opposite Celtic Wood) Zonnebeke, Ypres.
Battalion strength: 49 Officers, 913 Other Ranks.
At 3p.m. enemy reported massing in Celtic Wood BRIGADE informed and artillery dispersed them.
At 4-30p.m. information from BRIGADE that aeroplane reported all roads leading to enemys front full of troops. Preparations made for counter attack expected during night. Extra ammunition to Coys. Wire placed in front. During night our artillery kept slow fire on enemy positions but no attack developed.
19 casualties.
It looks like Victor Walter was just another casualty of random German shelling on their sector of the front during that day.
