50 Squadron

50 Squadron was formed 16th May 1916 as a Home Defence Squadron, being disbanded in June 1919.

The Squadron was reformed in May 1937 as a bomber Squadron, based at R.A.F. Waddington, Lindholme, Swinderby and Skellingthorpe, flying Hampdens then Manchesters and later Lancasters, the Squadron did convert to Lincolns after the war.

The Squadron was disbanded on the 31st January 1951.

The Squadron was reformed in August 1952 at R.A.F. Binbrook flying Canberras.

The Squadron was again disbanded on the 1st October 1959.

The Squadron was reformed in August 1961 at R.A.F. Waddington flying Vulcans.

The Squadron was finally disbanded on the 31st March 1981.
