Concord Lodge, 8113
Warrant granted: 8th June 1966.
Constituted: 29th September 1966.
A daughter Lodge of Sun, Square and Compasses Lodge No 119.
In the early 1960's a number of enthusiastic "young" masons in the Whitehaven area were keen to form an Emulation Lodge of Instruction.
The name "Concord" for the new lodge was chosen for two reasons; firstly as it means union of hearts and minds, union in feelings, sentiments and opinions; and secondly because there had been a lodge of that name in Whitehaven operating from around 1805 to 1834.
Concordia was one of the lesser Roman goddesses, she is depicted on the lodge banner as a matron holding an olive branch in her right hand and a cornucopia in the left, the universal symbols for peace and plenty.
The Lodge originally met in Freemasons Hall, College Street, Whitehaven but due to the deteriation of the building it now meets at the Cleator Moor Civic Hall & Masonic Centre.
