My branch of "The Mossop Family" started on the 20th February 1776 when Jane Hodgson of Ennerdale, Cumberland married Matthew Mossop of Nether Wasdale, Cumberland at Gosforth, Cumberland.

They had a daughter, Betty, who was born in 1799 and was baptised 8th June 1799 at Ennerdale, Cumberland. Matthew died in 1799 and was buried at Nether Wasdale on 23rd July 1799.

In his will he left Jane a farm called Little Ground at Nether Wasdale in trust until Betty reached the age of 21. I can not find any record of what happened to Betty after the date of her fathers will being proven.

Jane kept the name "Mossop" and she had three illegitimate son's, this is the start of our branch of the "Mossop" family. We are descended from her son William and it is this branch that I will show on this page.

    Isaac Hodgson & Mary (nee Wilson)

Isaac and Mary had nine children, Jane was the second of their children.

    • Born 24th September 1778 in Ennerdale, Cumberland.
    Baptised 4th October 1778 at Ennerdale, Cumberland.
    She married Matthew Mossop 20th February 1799 at Gosforth, Cumberland. He died in July 1799 and she kept the Mossop surname as she never remarried.
    Died May 1821 at Little Ground, Nether Wasdale, Cumberland.
    Buried 23rd May 1821 in St Michael and All Saints Churchyard Nether Wasdale, Cumberland.

    Baptised 18th February 1803 at St Michael and All Saints, Nether Wasdale, Cumberland.
    He married Ann Douby 17th June 1826 at St Johns, Hensingham, Cumberland.
    Died 10th February 1879 at 49 Bowthorn Road, Cleator Moor, Cumberland.
    Buried 13th February 1879 in St Johns Churchyard, Cleator Moor, Cumberland.

    •  Born 5th August 1808, married Jane Pearson, died 1st October 1886.

    Died 26th January 1978 in the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, Cumberland.
    Buried 30th January 1978 at Hensingham Cemetery.

    Died 13th December 2004 in the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, Cumbria.
    Cremated 16th December 2004 at Distington Hall Crematorium, Cumbria.
