Small Scale Gaming

Hordes of the Things (HOTT) is the fantasy equivalent of De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA). It shares many of the same attributes: armies are small and require few figures, combat is quite abstract and success depends on making the correct match-ups between elements. However, in contrast to DBA, the rulebook has useful diagrams and definitions and a simple points system for creating your own armies. For a site which deals with the game in much more detail, try The Stronghold which is the semi-official HOTT site.

Warmaster and Warmaster Ancients are Games Workshop games played with elements of troops organised into units of (typically) three elements. They are played with 10-15mm figures, and the basing has a similar enough frontage to HOTT that I will be able to double-team some of my figures. I have bought a Parthian army as my first foray into ancients; fantasy will be the Empire.

HOTT The Demonic Brotherhood of KawneThis army is made up of blood-thirsty demons and has a very strong tilt towards the red end of the spectrum. The majority of the army is warband and beasts, impetuous elements liable to break ranks and charge forward to their doom - a deliberate choice.

HOTT Slugwrack's demonspawn
Slugwrack, a tentacled wizard brain, leads his rock behemoth into battle, with blades, flyers and artillery in support. A wide mix of figures makes up a rather diverse force. At some point I will add some elements of hordes to the army to allow some choice.

Warmaster Empire
Initially, this army will consist of whatever I can pick up cheaply on Ebay... the first two units I have painted up are handgunners and flagellants.
