Male Human Barbarian
The original Big Boris was the first figure Andy Foster at Heresy brought out and he now exists in a good half dozen varieties (including deathbowl referee and Christmas santa) - this is the first one I have painted up. As you can see, there is a huge amount of movement in the figure, and the pose is very believable. With a choice of hammer, axe, mace and sword (two supplied) used single or double handed, plus an option of helmeted or bare headed, you can make up pretty much your own version of Boris. I went for the ‘single handed happy stick’ version, and was very pleased with the pose. If you want a particular weapon, Andy is happy to oblige. On the down side, there was a bit of filling required, but nothing beyond my meagre skills. The sculpting can seem a bit ‘rough-and-ready’ at times, though this seems to be getting less obvious in Andy’s later figures. On the painting front, I am much less happy. This is a really nice figure, and I don't feel I have done justice to it. I tried out an ink-wash technique on the skin and I feel that it has come out rather patchy despite a fair amount of blending work afterwards. However, I am very pleased with the effect of the tattoos; I will be repeating this on at least one other figure, though much smaller and more refined. As to the 'Punisher' warpaint on his chest, I am not a hundred percent convinced it was a good idea... © Colin Hagreen, April 2004 |
