Selected Articles from The Gallovidian - 50 Years of Galloway Life

The Gallovidian was published between the years of 1899 and 1949 bringing together the very best of Galloway's writers, historians, photographers, artists and poets. The Golden Years celebrates this golden age of Galloway by reproducing 56 high quality pages of articles which have been selected to reflect a gentler era in this corner of Scotland. The cover is full colour, perfect bound and matte laminated. It is sure to appeal to "kindly folk" of all ages.

A few of the articles featured
"Freits" ....Superstitions and old wives tales from the past. Did you know that a baby born with a cold will be protected from drowning, as will anyone who in turn catches the cold from them.

"The First Pigs in Scotland" ....The chaos and alarm caused among the population of Ruthwell by the arrival of these "devil creatures".

"Port Patrick Harbour" .... A fascinating history of this port which was once the main link to Ireland.

"The Buchanites in Dumfries and Galloway" ....A sect whose dead leader was kept in her coffin in a Crocketford house closet awaiting her resurrection from the dead.

"The Galloway Highlands" ....A walk in the Glentrool area climbing The Merrick, The Kells range and a visit to Loch Enoch, the highest loch in Scotland.

"A Seaboard Parish" ....Colvend, Kippford, Rockcliffe - caves, smugglers, shipwrecks, hermits - the lot!
