Existing 1960s Gerry Anderson Original Model Props-_____________ BACK TO PHOTO SECTION

People often ask me the obvious question - 'Where are the models from the old shows today?'
Sadly the answer is usually -
'Destroyed, smashed or long lost!'
Over the years there have been people claiming to have original Thunderbird craft, but all of these have turned out to be liars, weirdo's or just plain idiots! As a result of those regular queries I have decided to list here those old models that have been seen in public over the last 30 years - and that are still (hopefully) in existence today. Unfortunately it's a really short list, which is amazing when you consider just how many models were built in the 1960s.

Prototype wooden Stingray - about 10 inch long - Not known if it actually ever appeared on screen. The model survived because it was owned for many years by Producer Reg Hill. (Picture Dave Watkin)

From Stingray, small props only a few inches long - Commander Shores Hoverchair, Troy and Phones monobikes - with disintegrating Plastercene Marina, constructed for `Tom Thumb Tempest`episode but cut from the final edit.

Small submarine model, only a few inches long, from the Stingray episode 'The Big Gun'.

Blue Hoverbus filled with passengers made from Plastercene. A regular appearing model in many Thunderbird episodes - and also in the TB6 film I believe.

The small 'Ocean Pioneer' ship from the Thunderbirds episode 'Danger at Ocean Deep', last seen in this country in the early 1980s, current location unknown.

Front landing gear only - so not really a model. This was part of the small 3 & 1/2 foot Zero-X spaceship from the film 'Thunderbirds Are Go'.

'Red Truck', featured in several Thunderbird episodes, most notably as the Crablogger wood processor collector in 'Path of Destruction'. Then repainted light brown for 'Winged Assassin' episode of Captain Scarlet - now missing the rear tank added in that episode. (Picture courtesy Phil Rae)

Small wooden SPC from Captain Scarlet (used in long distance shots only) Can be seen parked at the front of the Maximum Security Building in `The Mysterons`, 6" long.

Two Angel Interceptor's from Captain Scarlet. One belonged to Special Effects Director Derek Meddings, was acquired by collector Phil Rae and has appeared at several displays - see picture. The other belonged to Director Alan Perry and is now possibly in the USA.

Large Firetruck from 'Doppelganger' (Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun) film - But cut from final movie so most people don't know what it is! Impressive large heavy model.

The largest Sky 1 miniature from UFO, two feet long, yet it is extremely light in weight. Probably the best surviving model from the old shows. (Part of the Phil Rae Collection)

Large and small Moonbase Interceptors from UFO. This big version was restored after being damaged while stored at the Dinky factory. (Part of the Phil Rae Collection)

Passenger jet from UFO episode 'Exposed', also appeared in several others as reused stock footage. Another very light-weight model made from Balsa wood detailed with many Letraline tapes. (Owned by UFO Super-fan Paolo Malaguti)

This list ends at UFO because happily a large amount of Space: 1999 models exist today and are too numerous to mention.

If you know of any other existing Studio originals from this time I would be happy to hear about them.
