Welcome to the
historic town of Ampthill
Ampthill is a small market town in Bedfordshire.
For a town of our size we have a rich history that is just
waiting to be discovered. Henry III granted a Royal charter
for the market in 1219 and renewed in 1242. Henry VIII was a
regular visitor to the castle and its associated hunting
grounds. Queen Katherine of Aragon was resident in the
castle while awaiting the annulment of her marriage to
Henry.
