In Daniel & Samuel Lysons 'Magna Britanica', Bedfordshire Volume (1806) Ampthill was described as "...a small neat town, pleasantly situated, but in a sandy soil." Today Ampthill is known for its Georgian character buildings. However many conceal a much older history behind their elegant façade. Much has been written about Ampthill and it is intended to provide more information over the coming months. In the meantime however an authorative history can be read by clicking here.
