The
Urmston & District Model Engineering Society's miniature railway track
is at Abbotsfield Park, Chassen Road, Flixton, Manchester. Flixton
is to the west of the M60 Manchester ring road. For visitors to the area
the most straightforward approach is from Junction 8 of the M60
(Carrington spur). Turn right
at the second set of traffic lights, signposted Flixton, and proceed
approx. two miles, bearing right at the next set of lights and right again
at the mini roundabout. Abbotsfield Park is on the left of Chassen Road.
The Trafford Centre shopping complex can be accessed from Junctions 9 or 10 of the M60 and is an interesting diversion for members of the visitor’s party not wishing to visit the track. The unique Barton swing aqueduct carrying the Bridgewater Canal over the Manchester Ship Canal is also near the Trafford Centre.
