North Carr Lightship

North Carr is the only remaining Scottish lightship. She protected shipping off Fife Ness until 1975 when she was briefly berthed as a tourist attraction in Anstruther Harbour. Now serving as headquarters and depot ship of the Maritime Volunteer Service, she has undergone restoration in Victoria Dock, Dundee. The works have cost approximately £65,000 to date but the impressive results can be seen in the image right.

A further refit will be required in 2009, when the hull below the waterline will be fully restored. There will be protection for the after deck, which will ensure preservation of the wooden planking and the underlying steel deckhead. Full services will be installed to enable accommodation onboard the vessel
