North Carr's engine room hosts the country's largest collection of Russell Newbery engines. Three of these drive generators and the other three operate compressors. The compressors supply air at 25 lbs./sq. in. to the three circular air receivers by the for'ard bulkhead. The diesel tanks occupy the opposite extremity of the compartment behind the no smoking notice. The switchboard is on the starboard side of the engine room with the diesel daily use tank above its right hand edge. The small workshop space with contemporary machinery is on the port side.
