North Carr's Crew's Quarters

The bunks in view would have been personalised with photographs of family or pin-ups. Although there was a lack of privacy, the quarters were fairly spacious and made for a reasonable social life. The bunks are fully enclosed as the motion of the vessel would have been fairly lively in rough weather, and it would have been by no means unusual for occupants to be thrown out of their bunks. Each crew member worked: 4 hours on, 4 off; 4 hours on, 8 off; 4 hours on, 16 off. On every watch period there were two men on duty, of which at least one was an engineman. The latter would have maintained the engine room equipment, whilst the other watchman would have kept a lookout on deck. There was also a requirement to attend to the light.
