Meet the Beekeeper

Deryck R. Johnson is a qualified beekeeper with over twenty years experience. His home apiary has been on the same site in Wimbish all this time. This has proved very beneficial in that he is in regular communication with his farming neighbours. As such, the apiary management can be geared to fit in with the differing crop rotations in the surrounding fields. Another great benefit is that the farmers for their part do not use any sprays which would harm the bees or damage the honey harvest.

Beekeeping is not just a case of sticking a load of bees in a box down the garden but is a continual learning process in the manipulation of what are naturally wild insects. It is however an occupation which can easily become an obsession and if your honey is of a high quality you soon get a good reputation. This can be witnessed by the fact that the house is now known as 'The Honey House' for miles around: Deryck is known as 'The Bee Man' and his wife now finds people referring to her as 'Mrs. Honey'. If you would like to know more, or would simply like to visit the apiary then email Deryck at: info@honeyhouse.co.uk
