Between 1905 and 1912, much experimentation took place into producing an acceptable 1/2" map.
There were changes in the method of showing heights by a) Hill shading b) Layers c) Both Shading and layers.
Trials were made of showing woods by a) Flat green b) Green tree symbols c) Black tree symbols.
The height at which layers changed from green to brown was changed from 100 to 200 feet ,
and a Grid system was introduced towards the end.
All this precedes the standard Road Map with its distinctive cover - next page.
These changes makes a fascinating series to collect in its various prints
- these details are not included in the map descriptions
to avoid this being too cumbersome, but are available on request.
