Greg Fox

Born 10th September 1974, March Cambs

Studied with Chris Fox at Huddersfield University from 1995 to 1998 completing the MA in Composition in 1998.

Started composing in mid-teens, largely paper scores and fairly amorphous tunes for piano. Moved to more structured composition at university, embracing a variety of serial techniques whilst being strongly influenced by a variety of more chaotic approaches including Schnittke, Henze and the ‘popular’ music of Kristin Hersh, etc.

Started to make more use of electro-acoustic techniques towards the mid-90s whilst retaining an interest in ensemble pieces, partly because of the nature of studies.

After leaving university, realised ensemble performances were going to be problematic so focused on electro-acoustic and solo/small chamber music.

Currently distributing scores and recordings online and using eBay trading in interesting and relevant pop and contemporary recordings to piggyback own compositions on CD format.

From the early 2000s moved towards a greater interest in the spoken word as a compositional medium, and completed the CD “The Ballad of Cant and Bias”, taking in old ensemble recordings and electronic pieces and combining them with the written/spoken word in 2005. This is now available online to download in the MP3 format.

Available for music-theatre, chamber/solo projects, remixes, literary collaboration and development of various types of music and theatre projects.
