Opening Pandora

"Opening Pandora" is a CD by Greg Fox, written November 2006. It explores equal temperament tunings, in particular 19tet piano, 11tet flute, 13tet clarinet and 10tet guitar. The piece is a CD length in duration and is pretty black in mood. It's in nineteen tracks and is available online via the Internet Archive.

The piece was written in a week using RMCP which is a freeware composition tool for writing indeterminate music via MIDI soundfonts. Individual threads were generated by chance using RMCP and recorded in Cool Edit and then the piece was moulded and post-composed by a mixture of action painting and intuition.

A particular debt of gratitude for this CD is owed to Richard Baldy for the 19tet links and to Mathman and Chrrissty for considerable help with getting my thick head round logarithms and suchlike.

As a final note, the cover art picture is not a photograph of me so don't panic that I've gained 5 stone in a month. It's edited to look that way. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :-)

To save time you can also order a hard copy of the CD, which costs £5 including P&P anywhere in the world.
