Parliament of Demons

This is my CD for September 2006. I was in a creative mood on the 15th of September, having surprisingly finished the film 'Incarz' early, so wrote a big Bachian-style thing based on two melodies; one for flute, one for oboe (both faked).

The piece consists of two ethereal canons, a thirty-minute centre-piece ricercare, then two crab canons to finish. It's a bit of a long haul but if you liked parts of 'Boxing Day Retreat' and '[temp-final]' then you'll probably like this too.

In addition to the main piece, the CD also contains the 'Suite from "Parliament of Demons"', which consists of two themes and five variations, in clearer chunks across 18 minutes.

For people obsessed with the golden section, the outer 'bracket' canons in the main piece use phi as the transposition factor for each iteration of the theme in question. The transformation is 'resampling' rather than pitch-shifting, such that the tempo as well as the pitch is adjusted by a factor of phi. This means that the proportions in both the durations and pitches are 'golden'.
