Frequently
Asked Questions
Do you believe this
actually happened?
This is one of the most frequent questions I'm asked, sometimes
veiled within a barrage of poorly spelled insults. The quick
answer is 'no' - I personally don't believe that the Paul
McCartney we all know and love died in a car crash on November
9th, 1966.
Well... Why the website then?
I've always been fascinated with conspiracies and reading
about them, going over the so-called 'evidence' to prove
peoples claims (some being very convincing...). Since I'm
a huge Beatles fan anyway it was like these two great loves
converged into one in regards to 'Paul is Dead', and since
there weren't any decent websites back when I was trying
to read further into it I had one of those magical ephanies
you sometimes have, and OPD was born. It was, and still
is, great fun to research!
Do you think the
clues were intentional?
It's hard to say really. About 98% of what I have listed
as a clue are vague 'what-if's, where something no doubt
innocuous has been twisted to give it a more macabre incinuation.
For example, the television on the Sgt. Pepper front cover
- it's there purely because the Beatles were asked to bring
in a personal item for inclusion on the cover, and the television
was John's. In a Paul is Dead context however, the television
has been labelled as symbollic to the news blackout of the
death.
Saying that however, that
isn't to say that all clues are like this. There
are a small number of instances (such as the line in Glass
Onion - "Here's another clue for you all / The Walrus
was Paul") which cannot simply be explained like this.
Also, there are the physical changes that Paul seemingly
went through between late 1966 and early 1967 where he appears
to have grown taller, his hairparting has suddenly jumped
and his singing style and bass playing has noticeably changed.
It's these that do sometimes make you go 'Hmmm...?'
Why do you feature
clues on albums / movies from before November 1966, before
his alleged death?
Because, in the past, they have been cited as clues
on a number of other sources, and this wouldn't be a definitive
Paul is Dead site if they weren't included. It also highlights
just how things can be twisted despite having utterly zero
significance.
What's your favourite
clue?
Ooh, a toughie. On a personal level I think one
of my favourites is the reversal in 'Blue Jay Way', mainly
because it's a clue I discovered myself. My other favourite
clues are the ones that make you go all goosepimply once
you discover it, or when the siginificance is pointed out
to you. The mirrored bass-drum on the Sgt. Pepper cover
is one of these. Reversals in general are also fascinating
and hearing a coherent sentence in a piece of music that's
being played backwards feels really spooky.
What do you think
Paul would think if he saw your site?
I'd think he'd laugh, phone me up and invite me over for
a jam session. Then we'd write songs together and tour the
world!
Are you actually
a Beatles fan?
I've been a Beatles fan since I was about 11-12 years old.
My brother started me off when he incessantly played the
Red Album in the car during long journeys. Since then it's
pretty much snowballed. I've read the books, listened to
the music, collected the records, attended the concerts
etc etc... I was a bit fanatical in my devotion during my
teen years but it's mellowed quite a bit since then. These
days I mainly focus on the collecting aspect and I'm usually
hanging around on a variety of Beatle / vinyl messageboards
offering advice and valuations for old Beatle records.
We are a TV program
/ magazine article / radio program etc... and would like
to interview you for an article / show. Would you be up
for that?
Certainly! I'm open to any questions or interviews
etc and would be happy to take part. You can easily get
in touch with me via the form on the 'Submit a Clue' page
or contact me via webmaster@paulisdead.co.uk.
Please leave details about what program / production / publication
company you're with when you contact, thank you.
