Beatles Illustrated Lyrics

Front cover.

Introduction
The book starts out with the image of a man crying and the dedication: "Dedicated to *image of a crying man with a lettuce for a head* who didn't see it, and to Rita, Miles and Saffron who did." Who is the crying person with half his head replaced with a vegetable? Is this saying that the person who didn't see it coming is now a vegetable?

Page 13
On page 13 we see probably the most obviously blatant Paul is Dead clue in the entire book. It depicts Paul dead in a black room on a mortuary slab whilst a heavenly figure stands over the body with her hands in a 'raising up' position. Does this mean Paul somehow rose from the dead?

Page 20
On page 20 there's this little graphic that appears to show two people - a man and a woman - sitting on a cloud whilst a jester stands in front of a crowd. Could the figures on the cloud be up in heaven? Could they be Paul and Rita after the fatal car crash? Could the jester be a metaphor of the fooling of the crowd standing around the car crash so that they never learned of who they saw die?

Page 59
On page 59 there's an image of a sailor and woman standing next to each other. The only problem here is that the sailor is shown to be decapitated. Although not a reference to McCartney in particular, why are we being shown such an image?

Page 63
Once again, on page 63, we're shown a person who looks like McCartney up in the heavens on a cloud.

Page 84
On page 84 there's an image of what looks like deathly-blue Paul with a broken, cracked head (a reference to the head injuries?) and with his mouth in his hands. Could the latter be a metaphor for being silenced about the incident?

Page 100
This delightful image greets us on page 100; the image of a man - again looking a little like McCartney - being ripped from the chest up and into his face. Yet again we're greeted with another macabre image of Paul that's focusing on death and head injuries.

Page 168
We're shown a little comic strip on page 168 that uses inspiration from 'Why Don't We Do it in the Road?' One particular frame shows Death, complete with scythe, driving a car. This is telling us that death is associated with driving?
