Note the statue of "New Man" (top left corner).  He's only 2,000
years old!  Did this statue give the advertising agency the idea?
Did the agency reinvent "New Man" or merely trim his beard?

Why did I stick an old monochrome photo of  The Mask Peddlar
between two more recent photos? Firstly, the old photo shows
the peddlar's face; the newer photos don't. Secondly, the three
masks he holds in his right  hand have  disappeared!  Stolen or
put aside for safe-keeping? Only the old black and white photo
shows us how this statue was originally intended to appear.
