These two Madonnas and Lord Leighton's fantastic seascape are
among my  favourite paintings,   and  I'm an atheist!   This is the
power of great art to transcend its subject.  Boucher's charming
painting of  Cupid caressing Venus's  breast is another example.

The portrait of Ozias Thurston Linley as a Boy is attributed to
Sir Thomas Lawrence.  I have my doubts.  Anonymous works
are often attributed to famous artists.   If only artists signed,
dated and documented their work,  we'd know for certain....
