Centaur Skills

In general the skills learnable by centaurs are those learnable by any race or class., although this apparently includes the Fighter skills Arena Combat and Real Grit (this isn’t stated explicitly anywhere in the rule book!). There is one skill specific to Centaurs (which we share with Elven Warrior Maidens).

Bladesing

300 XP, 300 GP, DEX 12+ required, 25%  failure chance

Order to Learn (from a Trader):- X 1545

Bladesing is the use of the Kyrian weapon known as a Scimiter in a whirling display of swordplay that is entrancing to watch and effective in use. While equipped with a scimitar, those with this skill gain +3 normal defence, +3 damage and +3 attack.

CENTAUR MEADOW SKILLS

There are a couple of additional skills , Expert Mount and Haute Ecole, that can be learnt from  Centaur Meadows.

Haute Ecole is a skill any Centaur can learn from Centaur meadows.

- Haute Ecole 1 - +4 attack , +4 normal defence

XP 300 - GP 300 - order L 40

- Haute Ecole 2 - +7 attack - +7 normal defence - +1 damage

XP 1000 - GP 1000 - order L 41

- Haute Ecole 3 - +9 attack - +9  normal defence - + 2 damage

XP 2500 - GP 2500 - order L 42

- Haute Ecole 4 - bonuses to be determined

XP 3000 and GP 3000  - order L 43

Success in an attempt to learn these skills is not guaranteed, and the usual penalties apply for unsuccessful  attempts. Note that the bonuses above are totals, not cumulative.

Expert Mount (Centaur)

450 XP, 450 GP, no failure chance, Order to Learn:- X 4327 'character ID'

This is the same skill learnt by Two-legs as Expert Horsemanship. Gives +5 to attack, in addition to +10 to all defences.  Can be learnt from Centaur Meadows, but not from Instructors of the Expert Horsemanship skill.

Once Expert Mount is learnt, three further advanced skills can also be learnt, all at a cost of 350 XP and 350 GP:

- Battle Charging (X 4328 to learn)

- Defensive Riding (X 4330 to learn)

- Speed Riding (X 4329 to learn)

Battle Charging

350 XP, 350 GP, Prereq: Expert Horsemanship,  no failure chance (not confirmed though)

Order to Learn (from Centaur Meadow or an Instructor):-  X 4328

A character with the Battle Charging skill is able to urge a mount to charge into battle in such a way as to offer the least possible target to the opponent. The mount (Centaur) gains a Damage Adjustment of -1 (all NORMAL weapon-based attack types do one point less damage for the duration of the turn). The order to do this is written by the rider targeting the mount as 'X' '4738' 'target mount'.

Defensive Riding

350 XP, 350 GP, Prereq: Expert Horsemanship,  no failure chance (not confirmed though)

Order to Learn (from Centaur Meadow or an Instructor):-  X 4330

A character with the Defensive Riding skill is able to use clever maneuvres to make his mount and himself harder to hit while in combat. The mount and rider gain 'Normal' Defensive Adjustments of -5 for the duration of the turn. This bonus is negated if the rider issues any Z order after activating it. The order to do this is written by the rider targeting the mount as 'X' '4747' 'target mount'. Obviously the rider must be on the mount.

(Obviously this refers to a human rider on a horse but it is presumed to work the same way for a Centaur.)

Detailed benefits from Speed Riding are not available.

ADVANCED SKILLS

Advanced skills are learnable at an Advanced Skills House, found in most major dungeon courtyards. There is only one advanced skill applicable to Centaurs (although Centaurs can also learn the General Advanced Skills list, which includes Adventuring 5+, Athlete 5+, and Herbalism).

Enchant Bow

1000 XPs, 500 GPs, Order To Learn:- ‘L’ '913'

Attempting to enchant a bow costs 100gp. Only occasionally will the attempt succeed (estimated to be 10%).  In most cases it will result in the bow splintering under the strain of the enchantment.
