Happy New Year!
Yes, it's all over - done and dusted as they say. I hope that Santa was good to you all and that you got at least one present that you would actually have chosen for yourself!
It's odd writing this page. I'm writing it in December and yet here I am having to talk to you as though we were into the new year. Whatever the weather is like now (and it was very frosty in the run up to Christmas) I hope that you are all keeping warm, keeping away from bugs and germs and feeling fully fit to face this new year.
And it's going to be a very challenging new year, at every level. Our economy is in freefall, our currency similarly is not so much floating as sinking, the number of people out of work is escalating rapidly and "Woolies" has gone to the wall after 99 years.
All the dreams of living off unlimited credit, of houses growing in value at an unprecidented rate, of us all running around in BMWs and spending half of our lives eating-out, have gone. The bubble, the bubble we were all actually aware of, did finally burst and, like bubble-gum, a lot of us are left with a right sticky mess on our faces.
BUT, it's not the end of the world (before you all get depressed), the older among us have seen all this before and know that, while it'll get tricky for a while and some individuals who have really overextended themselves will hurt, in the long term the adjustment will be made, reality will be brought back into values, credit and wages and then we can all start over again.
So, keep your head down, keep working and simply wait it out. We will survive and recover!
