17th June '04:

Dear Sirs,

Last weekend I went over to Lytham to the kite festival, and what an excellent time I had apart from one thing. We were all informed that due to an incident 15 months ago, there was an exclusion on any form of kite activity involving movement with a buggy or a board. As a keen pleasure buggier, I was unable to participate in this activity.

Could you please let me know what we as organisations (I am a member of both the BBC and the PKA) are doing to get this ban lifted?

On the busiest day, Sunday, there were a lot of people on the beach. But as you are aware, it is a huge expanse, and to be honest you could still have landed a Jumbo Jet on parts of the beach and not hit someone.

I look forward to a response

Yours truly,

Keith Underwood

BBC response:
Keith,

Yes I am aware and we used to do power kiting at that event.  On an event basis it would be possible to do buggying etc.  I have had meetings with the council which seemed quite productive however, as the court case etc is being somewhat prolonged and the councils need to ensure that they have explored ALL risks for ALL sports (not just us) then I am afraid that we are having to wait.

We will be back on the beach though in time.

Also, I found out that things have moved on a bit but now the industry is getting involved and the council are talking to them so I am sort of out of the loop, however ALL the different clubs needs are being addressed and we will be back there at some point.

Hope this helps.
BTW, not sure if you are aware of the original accident but it was that one thing that has caused problems with other councils ever since, they do want us back but we need to respect their wishes and adhere to the voluntary ban.  Once we are back at Lytham we should find it easier to be able to deal with other such authorities as their excuse would have been removed.

Ian
PKA response:

Still nothing yet !!!!!!!!

The stuff on this site is what I think. If you get hurt, it shows that you should have asked someone who knows more than me.
