CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
On the 1st March
our church had its second Eco-congregation assessment. It was more than 2 ˝ years
since we last achieved the award.
John, Carole and Liz met Hilary
Clough-Smith from Hambleton District Council, and Christine Cowper a Rectors
wife and Lay Preacher to look at our church and premises and to discuss our
church life.
They were looking for
evidence of three things:
·
The connection between
environmental issues and Christian faith expressed in the spiritual life of the
church
·
Some practical, tangible
initiatives
·
Work with the local
community, or work that has had a positive impact on that community
We had a very productive and
informative chat which has provided us with some more food for thought for
later.
They were apparently very
impressed with our continuing eco-ministry in all its dimensions, but
particularly highlighted the following:
·
Fairtrade involvement
both within the church community and working towards Northallerton having
Fairtrade status
·
Management of our
grounds
·
Operation Noah and LOAF
events
·
Transfer of accounts to
the Co-operative Bank despite the difficulty that had entailed
This is a great commendation
of everyone’s contribution to our church family
WELL DONE!
