Zion Church first came into being after open air gatherings in 1796 at the Market Cross. Our building was established in 1818 and dedicated in 1819.

It started as an independent Congregational Church and became a United Reformed Church in 1972 when the Presbyterian Churches and the Congregational Churches joined together to form a new denomination
