Matt learnt to play the guitar in his late teens and joined a band called FREE BEER which later morphed into STIFF IN THE MORNING. He eventually quit, but the band continued and are still playing the gig circuit.

Mark had formed his own band PERSEVERANCE, enlisting the percussive talents of his brother Gary, who didn't start drumming until he was in his mid 20's.

Kris had played keyboards in a few bands. He first started gigging properly as lead guitarist in GIN PALACE (who later became BOOT50), but eventually began writing his own material. One day he got his brother to try out the vocal parts and SHOCKED BY THE SCENERY were born.

Mark enlisted Matt as lead guitarist in PERSEVERANCE and together with bass player James began trying out different vocalists to front their new lineup.

BOUNCING OFF CONCRETE was formed in October 2002, when Paul auditioned for the part of lead vocalist and Kris popped along to watch. James left the band due to other commitments and both Paul and Kris were enlisted as band members (which meant Kris had to learn to play the bass!). The formula worked and the lineup remains unchanged.

Why is this? What is the secret formula behind a perfect lineup?
SIMPLE - MAKE SURE NOBODY CAN BE SACKED.
In our case, everyone has something vital for the success of the band and / or is related to someone else :

(1) PAUL is a great frontman AND is Kris's brother AND he works with Matt and Mark
(2) MATTS DAD owns the studio in which we rehearse (cheers, Chris)
(3) GARY is Marks brother AND he does some sort of kung fu so we dare not replace him
(4) MARK owns half the gear AND is Gary's brother AND works with Paul and Matt
(5) KRIS is Pauls brother AND the only band member with any musical knowledge

So as long as this uneasy truce exists the band are here to stay, until either :

(1) Paul stops changing his sweaty shirts in between sets
(2) Matt grows his hair long like a real rock guitarist
(3) Gary's volume increases until one day we all explode
(4) Mark plays a complex solo
(5) Kris manages to smile at a gig (bad news - this has happenned recently)
