Why is it called the Knitronomicon?

I have weird friends. Some of them are utterly wonderful. One of them, Zander Nyrond by name, is somewhat fond of writing Lovecraftian words to songs sung by Sir Cliff Richard. Some of these songs are pretty good! One of them was "Necronomicon", to the tune of "Summer Holiday". ( This link will take you to his web page, where you can find this song and more!)

Now, some years ago, I knitted a Darth Maul. He was sold at the 12th British Filk Con, Didgeri12, in Milton Keynes, for what at the time seemed the obscene sum of £13. I immediately received orders for two more, and they were also re-christened "Darth Small". Now, one of the people who commissioned a doll was also somewhat fond of Cthulhu and other things Lovecraftian. So, without telling him, I worked out how to adapt the same pattern to knit a Cthulhu for him. While doing so, I realised there was filk involved. And also that I had to rechristen my knitting pattern and wool collection.

So, thank you Brian for the inspiration, and thank you Zander for the loan of your song.

I've been looking at the Knitronomicon,
Just been glancing at a page or two;
Lots of patterns in the Knitronomicon,
Taught me stitches I never knew -
Over, round and through.

The Elder Gods are cute and cuddly;
The Elder Gods are green and blue!
I make them from books by Greenhowe,
With a tentacle or two.....

I've been working with the Knitronomicon
Just been stitching up a god or two...
Now I've finished with the Knitronomicon,
Here's an Elder God, Brian, for you -
A cuddly, cute Cthulhu!

And here is the god himself....
