'Raiders Of The Lost Archives' - The Drunkards Estate

'Raiders Of The Lost Archives' - Welcome to the page for The Drunkards 'Estate'.

Visit Gary Mitchell's 'General Comedy Page' for other links - this is the page for the 'saloon's' current activity (it's unofficially a 'saloon' because it's not really big enough to be an 'estate' - boom, boom!)

The 'Take That' of British comedy? Although no longer a disfunctioning unit (see 'Previous Life' ), in 2006 THE DRUNKARDS came together again to mark their 30th anniversary by producing a charity calender.

Where are they now? Graham (ironically) now runs a pub back in Warwickshire, specialising in fine ales and live music. His web address is at http://www.jolly-abbot.co.uk/ . Andy is training for ordination by the Church of England and Harry is... well, possibly the nicest bloke in the universe. As for Gary, see 'Gary Mitchell's Home Page' for his nefarious activities.

As delegated keeper of the flame 'base-player' Gary is working on 're-visioning' uninssued archive material using the 'latest technology' (sic). Note the '77', '87, '07 synchronicity, Man! We think the broadcast of 'Family Reunion' by 'Hope FM' is the first ever of a Drunkards recording (as opposed to a cover version of Drunkards penned material). The track is now available on the charity compilation CD 'Unavailable Elsewhere' - see 'For Sale' .

See 'For Sale' for details of current archive-based 'product'. Maybe more soon! Maybe something new too - an interactive computer based game involving adventures around 1970's Stratford-Upon-Avon, provisionally entitled 'Henley High School Musical'.

BIBLIOGRAPHIC BIT

Timings are only given for mastered recordings.

RECORDING SESSION, 03/04/2008, Bournemouth (Gary's house). PERSONNEL: Gary. ITEMS RECORDED: Warning (0:38) / First Joke (0:56) NOTES: A mastering for of Gary's unissued recording (originally for 'Radio Boscombe' or possibly solo on 3/12/1995) of a Mitchell/King/Holland thought-up-down-the-pub gag intro. 'First Joke' entirely new - Gary's take on the first joke he sold to the BEEB in 1979. Recordings for a projected radio special cum CD 'Radio Friendly ? .

RECORDING SESSION, 11/9/2007, Bournemouth (Gareth Mayo's penthouse). PERSONNEL: Gareth Mayo. ITEMS RECORDED: Family Reunion (Beeped Version) (2:28) NOTES: A mastering for full broadcast using Gareth's system to not degrade the ageing tapes. History - he becomes the first person to work on a Drunkards recording without one of them there - editing out the 'record player' FX as noise to streamline!

RECORDING SESSION, 14/7/2007, Bournemouth (Gary's House). PERSONNEL: Gary. ITEMS RECORDED: Margarine Pubs - Readers Page (2:35) / Margarine Pubs - Readers Page (Radio Edit) (0:55) / Stonewall J. (5:21) / Stratford 5-0, Episode 1 (5:59) / Stratford 5-0, Episode 2 (5:28) NOTES: The 'vynal solution' to 'Stonewall' was to edit and deleting all scandalous references to family and fiends - for '5-0' to turn the clumbersome original into two by copying the intro and outro (with edits). No FX overdubs have been used to retain the 'punk' verite energy of the original takes (Ok, it sounds pretentous, but it's true...) (Original recording dates 24/02/1977 for 'Marge Pubs', ??/07/77 for all others).

RECORDING SESSION, 13/7/2007, Bournemouth (Gary's House). PERSONNEL: Gary. ITEMS RECORDED: Gladys Meets Bert - Part 85, In the Long Grass (5:18) NOTES: The version first released on the 1987 cassette 'Beyond A Joke' omitted the 'music' intro and outro. Here it's reinstated to it's original form. (Original recording date ??/06/1977).

RECORDING SESSION, 13/7/2007, Bournemouth (Gary's House). PERSONNEL: Gary. ITEMS RECORDED: The Ten Trade Union Commandments (1:25) / Family Reunion (2:37) NOTES: If since Mrs Thatcher crushed the unions the former is now mainly of historical interest - the latter still rings true! (Original item for both 'Christmas Day'. Original recording date ??/12/1977).
