Radio Boscombe Page

Welcome to Gary Mitchell's page for his group 'Radio Boscombe'.

Visit 'General Comedy Page' for links.

Please visit 'For Sale Page' for details of current 'product' - including the most recent CD 'How Can You Hate Them??'.

As well as their usual 'Livewire Live' gig (next show 2nd December 2009) the group hope to be doing live stuff soon.

REFORMATION

In 2007, after a decade of inactivity (see 'Previous Life' ), RADIO BOSCOMBE re-grouped (line-up #10 for those of you out there counting!) For lo, it came to pass e-mails concerning royalties bantered and flashed back and forth in the darkness, and JONATHAN THE JESTER (aka Jonathan Russell) suggested how much he missed working with the others. GARY MITCHELL suggested in that case they try it again, ANNE LYDON said, 'yeah, why not'. MORGAN McGINNIS has kinda declined - though she might be in again for the odd recording session in between scribing her latest radio and stage plays. Unfortunately, due to personal commitments, ANNE had to drop out of the reunion, and has now retired.

Undaunted, GARY and JON forged ahead - writing and recording new material for the 'Weekend Breakfast Show' (see 'Hope FM' and 'General Comedy Page' ). They also appeared on 'Hope's' Wednesday night arts show 'Livewire Live' and on 'Forest FM's' drivetime 'Laura Jerome Show' - and in 2008 released the critically acclaimed and post-code best-selling CD, 'Can't Get A Girl !'

After that they 'got a girl' (ha ha!) by recruiting JON'S 'apprentice' PIXIE JESTER (aka Pauline Gillespie) to complete line-up #11 - and continue recording for more broadcasts and a new album. GARY, meanwhile, had been working with young writer and performer GEORGE ATTWILL a lot over the previous year - and because he's cheap it made sense to recruit him too - so were now back to the classic 'three-boys-and-a-girl' line-up so beloved by Seventies casting directors (#12 for those of you out there counting).

STEP TWO

As a quartet JON, GARY, GEORGE and PIXIE recorded a new CD 'How Can You Hate Them ??' (2008). This 17th and thus far latest set featues seventy minutes of all new material - including live takes from radio broadcasts. The plan was next to move forward and work on improving the quality of writing and performances and up the game - also to finally GO LIVE in 2009! We dun it too!

As a consequence of all this they were now regularly broadcast by DJ Paul Edwards on 'Punkyradio', at 'Punkyradio Podcasts', and on Jon's own show on 'Forest FM'. They also appear monthly on 'Hope FM 's' Wednesday night arts show 'Livewire Live'. PIXIE set up a 'Radio Boscombe Facebook Page' and GEORGE a 'Radio Boscombe MySpace' - so add yourself along as a 'friend'. GEORGE also set up a 'Radio Boscombe Bebo Page' where you can see vids and listen to samples of the group's work.

REORGANISATION

July to August 2009 - and in order to fulfill their plans for global domination Radio Boscombe has reorganised.

In July Heidi and Sophie Attwill (right) were drafted to help out as support and crew, and PIXIE took a step back due to work commitments. Broadcaster and musician LAURA JEROME (left) joined to make line-up #13, and we went into rehearsal and planning, aiming to be regularly gigging by Sept 2009 - and at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011!

Unfortunately in August, due to pressure of work, JONATHAN has been obliged to concentrate on his solo career, so GARY, GEORGE and LAURA are now line-up #14.

FUTURE PLANS

We may - or may not - still be aiming to do Edinburgh - but are intending to continue going live and fulfill our radio commitments and produce a new CD. So, apart from when they're doing things like day-jobs, homework, sleeping, and going to 'Tescos' RADIO BOSCOMBE are currently writing and rehearsing for future recording and live projects. See top of the page for next shows.

GEORGE is working on an 'machima' animation of regular RB characters 'The New Forest Pit Ponies', who already have their own 'Facebook Page'. The group is also working on a trio of representative back catalogue 'best of' releases - to be entitled 'Before The 4-Track - The Best Of The Mid Eighties', '88-89 FM - The Best Of The Late Eighties', 'Britcom - The Best Of The Early Nineties' (the mid nineties are already covered by the special edition of 'Do Not Adjust Your Brain' - see 'For Sale' ).

CHARITY STUFF

RADIO BOSCOMBE were very active for 'Comic Relief' in 2009, recording a special edition of 'The Jermaine Recoil Show' for radio stations and appearing on a special edition of 'Hope FM 's' Wednesday night arts show 'Livewire Live'.

Exclusive tracks are now available on the charity compilation CD 'Unavailable Elsewhere'. For this and our 'Live At 'Hope FM' - visit 'For Sale' .
