How Bazil Bears Began

I have always been interested in needlework especially cross stitch and knitting.

About 7 years ago I had an accident and could not go to work for 6 months and was pretty much housebound. One of my friends, who was interested in making bears bought me a teddy bear magazine and suggested I have a go for something different to do.

Needless to say I became hooked and although some of my first attempts were a bit odd to say the least, they all found good homes with my daughter and her friends.

My husband joked one day that should I ever have to name my bears they should be ‘Bazil Bears as they were all faulty!’

After returning to work I still found time to make the bears and friends and family often asked for them to give as gifts. They also suggested that I do a craft fair, so I made a small hug and then I had to think of a name. Well it just had to be Bazil Bears!  The feedback from the Craft Fair was very positive and I really enjoyed watching the smiles on people’s faces, when they saw the bears.

To date Bazil Bears has been a really interesting and fun hobby. I have met some great people over the last 7 years. and am now looking to maybe take this one step further.  So now Bazil Bears can now be found in the fur at Westmead Teddies on the Isle of Wight.

I am glad to say that they have improved with age but I am still learning all the time and striving for that perfect bear!
