The Hughenden stands 2.14m tall, 50 cm wide and 32 cm deep. The case is solid oak throughout ( it weighs over 100 lbs!) with hand-turned spindles on the hood. The design is our own, but the style is typical of an 18th century English longcase with square brass dial and solid wooden door. The trunk door opens with a lock and key to reveal brass cased weights on cables. The whole case is hand oiled and waxed giving a deep lustrous finish that truly reveals the beauty of the oak grain. The top quality, 8-day movement has Westminster chimes with a rich deep tone making the clock sound as good as it looks; however, have no fears about the chimes keeping you awake as the movement is fitted with an automatic night silence which, when selected, silences the chimes and hour strike between 10 pm and 7 am. The chimes and hour strike may also be selected on or off independently. The high quality dial plate is solid brass, with a silver coloured chapter ring. . |
