If you must have the best, then this is it. The Irstead is 55 cm tall, 32 cm wide and 28 cm deep. It is fitted with an 8-day, spring driven, triple chime movement. It has three different chimes (Westminster, Whittington and St Michael) that can be selected by a lever at the side of the dial. However, instead of chime bars, the chimes sound on a nest of 9 solid brass bells! It also has a selectable night silence fitted which can silence the chimes automatically between 10 p.m. and 7:15 a.m. The dial is solid brass with brass spandrels, a seconds hand and a moving moon in the arch. The quality and beauty of this dial really is outstanding. The sides are fitted with perforated brass side frets backed with red silk. A small oak drawer in the front of the base stores the winding key. The rear view shows the panelled door fitted with a lock and solid brass escutcheon to safeguard that beautiful movement. |
